Over £4,000 raised for the North West Air Ambulance and MacMillan Cancer Support Charities by a 9-day cycling trek from John O’Groats to Lands End.
The cycling team consisted of 4 colleagues from Johnson Matthey Catalysts in Clitheroe – Steve Wharton, Vicky Peel, Darrell Pye and Nat Marsden. Sadly, a fifth fundraiser – Iain – sustained an injury 3 weeks prior to the event so couldn’t make the trip. The team set off on a 920 mile cycle from John O’Groats to Land’s End to raise funds for Macmillan and the North West Air Ambulance. They were supported by Michael and Amanda (Steve’s Dad and Step Mum) who followed them with a motorhome which was stocked with supplies.
So, what’s this got to do with local news? At the Trawden Show 2018 this weekend we bumped into ‘Vicky’ (Victoria Peel) and she explained that she wasn’t competing in any events this year as she’d *just* completed an epic 9-day cycle ride from John O’Groats to Lands End. The purpose of the cycle ride was to raise money for two charities – North West Air Ambulance and MacMillan Cancer Support.
Apparently, on completion of this cycle journey, there were some ‘team celebrations’ and these occurred the day before Trawden Show! Of course, this comes with the usual price tag – the after effects! Quite unusually, she flatly refused any photo’s whilst in that state!
We first met Victoria back at the Trawden Show in 2016 where she was riding Bobbin’ About and competing in various of the horse events. Of course, we looked out for her & met her again at the 2017 Trawden Show. If riding horses and cycling wasn’t enough activity for one person, Victoria is a keen fell/runner and is often seen competing in those events too!
