Nelson and Colne College will open its doors to its prospective students of the future at a Year 8, 9 and 10 Open Event on Tuesday 30 April.
Young people who are starting to think about their studies after secondary school are invited to come along between 5.30 pm and 7.30 pm to find out more about NCC’s provision including a wide range of A Level subjects, career-focused vocational courses, and its high-quality Apprenticeship offer.
There will also be the chance to learn more about the new gold-standard T Level qualifications in Digital and Childcare starting in September 2020. NCC is the only college in East Lancashire selected to deliver these pioneering qualifications, with further subjects being rolled out in 2021 and 2022.
As well as finding out more about the curriculum and meeting expert tutors and the Careers Team, visitors will have the chance to discover NCC’s exciting extracurricular offer, tour the campus and view the high-tech facilities, and take part in a range of ‘have a go’ activities.
Nelson and Colne College is the number one college in the country for 16-18 learner achievement and 16-18 timely Apprenticeship achievement. The college is also number one in Lancashire for A Levels and vocational courses, based on progress scores, and is the leading FE College in the country for GCSE Mathematics progress and second nationally for English progress.

“Choosing a college is a huge decision and it is often beneficial at an early stage to explore the opportunities that are available for students after secondary school at Nelson and Colne College.
This includes discovering which course or programme is the best route forwards, getting a feel for College life, and finding out more about our comprehensive extracurricular offer that wraps around our study programmes and develops our students into well-rounded, work-ready young people.
As well as the traditional high-quality offer of A Levels, vocational courses and our ever-expanding range of Apprenticeships, we are also excited to deliver T Levels in Digital Production, Design and Development and Education and Childcare to students joining us in September 2020.
We will have a special zone at the Open Event where people can found out more about these brand new qualifications that are equivalent to three A Levels and have been designed in collaboration with employers to lead into highly-skilled technical occupations.

Nelson and Colne College has been voted by students as the best college in Lancashire for student satisfaction, and in its 2017/18 results, the college achieved a 99% pass rate at A Level and a 99.6% pass rate in advanced vocational courses. One in five leavers progress on to Russell Group universities, including Oxbridge.
Former West Craven High School student Bethanie Reeves, 18, progressed on to study International Relations at Durham University after achieving A*A*B in her Government and Politics, Sociology and History A Level exams.
Bethanie said:

My qualifications will help me as I can advance into Higher Education and make me appealing for a wide range of job opportunities. I would love to work in either the Home Office or the Foreign Office in the future.”
Ali Waris, 18, achieved Triple Distinction* in BTEC Level 3 Business and progressed on to the University of Leeds to study Management. The former Marsden Heights Community College student said:
“I have enjoyed the course as my timetable has been great and staff have been really helpful when I have needed it. The visits we have had during the course have been really interesting, including the trip to the Argos distribution centre.”
Georgie Holt, 17, has completed an Apprenticeship in Fitness Instructing at Oakhill Leisure said:
“Through my Apprenticeship, I have gained qualities which I can use now and in the future. I have also gained a lot of experience within the workplace, which has developed my confidence when dealing with people. Nelson and Colne College have been so helpful in every way. I would without a doubt recommend Apprenticeships to anyone.”
