This year’s walk was undertaken by a range of healthcare workers from three major NHS Lancashire Teaching Hospitals as well as Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital, plus their family and friends.
The walk is now in its fourth year and we’ve been following it every single year. It’s aim is to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease and to raise funds for Royal Preston Hospital’s Motor Neurone Disease Care & Research Centre and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
The walk this year was the biggest so far – at least in terms of participants – over 80 people! Although the end point has changed from the usual Colne Health Centre to Marks & Spencer, Burnley. (Secretly appreciated by the walkers … the route is 8 miles shorter!).
The walk was organised by Julie Sala, a MND Specialist Nurse at the research centre, and took place on Saturday 29th Sep 2018. They set off from Royal Preston Hospital at 7 am and arrived at Burnley Marks & Spencer at around 4pm. Certificates were presented to the walkers by Len Johnrose – former Claret midfielder.
The MND Care & Research Centre is the Charity chosen by Burnley M&S for their Charity of the Year for 2018.
Many thanks to Lloyds BMW Colne and Colne-based Graham Engineering for providing food and drink for the walkers as well as a BMW support vehicle.
