Christmas in Colne Event – Cancelled

COLNE TOWN COUNCIL CANCELS THE CHRISTMAS IN COLNE EVENT

The ‘Christmas in Colne’ event for 2020 has been cancelled.  To bring some festivity to Colne, the Christmas lights will be turned on from the 20th November 2020.

That announcement pretty much puts 2020 to bed events wise – Covid-19 has literally ensured that every community event over the year has cancelled or reduced beyond all recognition. For me, there are no words to describe the loss … I’m pretty sure everyone understands.

What about Halloween? Halloween in Colne event has been cancelled for a while and with all the current restrictions in place is likely have a very different feel. The best the community can hope for is for individual folks & businesses to show us their own efforts & pictures.

And Remembrance in Colne? Well, that’s been forced to be an “online event” – a pre-recorded commemoration will be online from 10.50 am on Remembrance Sunday, 8th November, and will be available on the Colne Town Council website. Again, we’ll see what we can find.

Official Press Release from Colne Town Council
It is with heaviness in our hearts that we announce that after much deliberation and taking into consideration the Governments recent advice, Colne Town Council has chosen to cancel our Christmas in Colne event for 2020. It isn’t a decision that we have taken likely but with the new restrictions and guidelines for Lancashire we have been left with no other option.

To still bring some festivity to Colne, we have decided to turn the Christmas lights on earlier than planned and the lights shall be turned on from the 20th November 2020.

Chairman of Colne Town Council, Mary Thomas has said:

‘With the new restrictions and guidelines in Lancashire, it wouldn’t be appropriate to go ahead with the event. We have to put the safety of the people of Colne first which is why the event has unfortunately been cancelled.’

The Town Council are hopeful we can get back to our unmissable events schedule for the whole of 2021. We are in the process of contacting all the performers, venues and traders with further information and please bear with us at this time.

Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Colne Town Council office either by phone on 01282 861888 or via email to admin@colnetowncouncil.org.uk.

We would like to thank all those involved with these events for their ongoing support.
