NCC students praise the college for supporting them to achieve their aspirations

Annie Bryan, Euan Fraser and Bilal Ejaz are all celebrating progression to leading universities after gaining stellar grades in their A Levels at NCC.

Annie, who previously attended West Craven High School, achieved A*AB in her Biology, Psychology and Chemistry A Levels, and is moving on to the University of Leeds to study Neuroscience.

Annie, 18, of Thornton-in-Craven, said:

“I chose Nelson and Colne College for it’s good reputation and my time at NCC has helped me become more independent. I’ve made new friends and it is a good environment for learning with great facilities.

I did better than expected and I am excited to be heading to my first choice university, where I hope from there I will go into a career where I can help people. I’ve had kind and very supportive teachers, and I feel that at NCC students are pushed to achieve their best.”

Euan (above), a former Colne Park High School student, and son of Assistant Principal Fionnuala Swann, celebrated with his mum and his dad at the opening of his results envelope.

Euan, 18, from Trawden, achieved A*AAB in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science and is progressing to the University of Bath to study Mathematics and Physics. He said: “I feel absolutely amazing after my achievements.

“I’ve had great support from College and the best aspect of Nelson and Colne College is the teaching and the lessons. I’m now looking forward to university and then a career in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics industries which is the career path that I have always wanted to go down.”

Former Pendle Vale College student Bilal, has progressed on to the University of Liverpool to study Business Economics after achieving A*AB in Sociology, Psychology and Statistics.

Bilal, 18, from Nelson, said:

“I chose Nelson and Colne College because my siblings came here, and the subjects I wanted to study were all offered at A Level.

I feel really happy with my results and feel my hard work has paid off. The quality of teaching is fantastic and the support I have received from my teachers has been amazing.”

In 2019’s A Level results, 93% of students at Nelson and Colne College achieved coveted A*-C grades and many students progressed on to Russell Group universities to take up highly competitive degrees in Dentistry, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Computer Science, Law and Economics.

Nelson and Colne College Assistant Principal for Academic Curriculum, Fionnuala Swann, said: “I’m thrilled on a personal note to see Euan achieving an amazing set of A Level results, and I’m delighted on a wider perspective to see so many of our A Level students achieving excellent grades to progress on to brilliant destinations.

“It was a fantastic 2019 for Nelson and Colne College, with the number of students achieving high A*-B grades increasing by more than five percentage points, and those achieving the highest A*-A grades improving by three percentage points. I would welcome future students to come and enrol, and to get ready to be their best with NCC.”
