Colne Co-Op – “New Central Premises” (Norway House, Albert Road)

Norway house is located on Albert Road, just above Colne Muni and is a significant building. It terms of the Co-op, it was home to a wide variety of goods & services. This Co-op building was referred to as the “New Central Premises” and opened on June 29th 1907.
There were several large window display areas labelled: Millinery, Costumes, Mantles, Drapery, Boots & Shoes, Tailoring, Furnishing, Confectionery, Grocery and Butchering.
Here are some of the departments within the Co-op in the Norway House building:- Right behind Norway house is, of course, Colne Hall. This building was bought by the Colne & District Co-op in 1903 and was used as offices. A list of Co-op premises (in 1920) and their opening times are shown on the Co-op Members Calendar for 1920.Now:
Norway House, Albert Road as of Nov 2019. Shop frontages are now Carlo’s Italian Restaurant, Planit Opticians, Chosen By Jessica, The Hair Studio, The Tanning Studio and Emma Hartley Bridalwear.
