BK’s Heroes – Raising Awareness of Brain & Kidney Cancer

On Sat 16th Nov 2019, BK’s Heroes – along with mascot Benji Bear – were in the glass house in front of the Market Hall.  As usual, they were busy raising awareness of Brain & Kidney Cancer and fundraising for the charity.  On the day, they raised over £104 for BK’S Heroes.

Fiona King said,

“We are a local, small family run non profit registered charity that was set up by our son Ben King who sadly lost his battle with Brain cancer and Kidney Failure – but in his memory we fight on for those who are still battling.

So far we have raised an amazing £156,000 to help people who are suffering with Brain and kidney Disease. This would not have been possible without the help and generosity of all those who have donated or supported our events.

Every penny we raise goes to the charity which, in turn, goes to the people who are suffering with these life threatening conditions.”

“Ben received a kidney from his Dad but when that began to fail, I went through testing to donate one of my kidneys to him but because he was subsequently diagnosed with Brain Cancer this was no longer an option.

I know first hand the effect that kidney failure has on an individual and their family so I decided to still go forward with the testing and am happy to say that I have been accepted as an altruistic kidney donor and will hopefully be donating in the New Year.

If anyone would like to support our charity, know more about the work we do or read Ben’s story they can visit our website: www. bksheroes.org.”

BK’s Heroes are no strangers to Colne. Back in May 2019, we chatted to them (and their supporting crew of Star Wars characters) in Sainsbury’s. They certainly caught the attention of shoppers, although we’re not sure whether the children or adults were more excited! 🙂
